I founded Bluefire Art & Design with two goals in mind.
The first is to support non-profit organizations by providing them with good, affordable graphic design. Coming from the parks and recreation business, I saw there was a need for strong, creative marketing materials for museums, foundations, schools and other community-based organizations that had limited budgets but still needed to professionally promote their cause. With over 25 years experience in the visual arts, I now specialize in supporting these non-profits, creating educational and promotional materials, exhibits and brand awareness. My design work focuses on the hands-on experience, developing pieces that excite, enlighten and encourage learning for children and families.
The second, and equally important goal, is to continue my life's journey of making art.
My philosophy is simple. First and foremost, my work is about the pure fundamentals of art…color, shape, texture, space and form. It is about bringing those elements together in a well-composed, aesthetically pleasing image. My satisfaction is in the creating; there is pleasure in the process. I wish for viewers to pause, appreciate, get drawn in by the materials and enjoy the subject matter. If the work evokes a memory or a conversation…if a viewer feels something that goes beyond the surface, then fantastic! But the first reaction to my work should always be a calm, cathartic exhale.
I'm also a professionally trained photographer, have a Masters in Fine Art degree in drawing and art history, and am a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists.
